Summary of Duties

D5 has an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist Assistant (OTA/PTA) to participate in the delivering of care for patients assigned by the Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists.  The OTA/PTA and performs appropriate therapeutic activities as directed by the supervising therapists to provide a safe, secure environment for patients. Participates in continuing professional development activities including the provision of clinical and educational in-services that foster ongoing learning, professionalism, interprofessional collaborations, and best practices. Maintains workload measurement data and documentation in appropriate timeframes according to the standards of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.  Participation of supervision of OTA/PTA students on an ongoing basis.  Is a resource; for the education of interprofessional students as required.  Is a resource for; staff, students, and other health care providers related to occupational therapy/physiotherapy and the equipment on the unit. Participates on appropriate committees pertaining to the operation of the unit and participates in discipline-specific activities within Sunnybrook. 

Qualifications/Skills

  • Diploma from a recognized college for completion of the Occupational Therapist Assistant/Physiotherapist Assistant program
  • Demonstrated understanding of rehabilitation principles and ability to communicate and work successfully in an interdisciplinary team environment 
  • Proven ability to be responsible for carrying out delegated tasks with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of equipment and hygiene principles
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills
  • Excellent oral, written, and non-verbal communication skills required
  • Previous experience with post-surgical clients required
  • Previous experience with orthopedic and neurosurgical patients preferred
