Job Summary and Qualifications:

    • Summary of Duties
        • Operates boilers, steam/electric chillers, diesel generators, GTG cogeneration plant, medical gas and HVAC systems and all other associated equipment in the hospital’s power plant and mechanical rooms.
        • Operates and maintains building automation and HVAC control system.
        • Carries out maintenance on boilers, chillers, pumps and HVAC equipment.
        • Responsible for trouble-shooting and major/minor repairs on air conditioning units.
        • Maintains water treatment program.
        • Diagnoses problems and performs major adjustments and repairs to power plant and HVAC equipment.
        • Maintains preventive maintenance and housekeeping program in boiler and mechanical rooms.
        • Responds to staff calls for emergencies, temperature adjustment, and other building related issues.
        • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills

        • Ontario Third Class Operating Engineer certificate.
        • Significant, recent related experience in power plant operations.
        • Experienced in HVAC systems and refrigeration.
        • Advanced mechanical aptitude and trouble shooting ability.
        • Knowledge of building automation and HVAC control systems.
        • Team player with the ability to carry out a variety of tasks.
        • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
        • Knowledge of computers.
        • Cogeneration experience is an asset.
        • Refrigeration license is an asset.

Physical Requirements

        • Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position including climbing ladders and stairs, walking, bending, stooping etc. Must have good manual dexterity and experience using industrial hand tools and power tools. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator. Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms. Must be able to work in confined spaces, work at heights and work from scissor lifts. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
