Summary of Duties
The dedicated technologist in coagulation will work under the general direction of a senior technologist, lab manager/designate and medical director for coagulation/designate. They must have a comprehensive working knowledge of the theory, methodologies, and equipment for the tests and procedures in the laboratory discipline of coagulation. They must ensure efficient and effective workflow, use resources appropriately, assist with improving processes, updating policies and procedures, and implementing change.
The technologist will work closely with the senior technologist in coagulation to plan, organize, and direct day-to-day technical operations to ensure timely, accurate, and reliable results. They will provide advanced technical and professional guidance to other technologists/technicians and clients as required and assist with new project set up as needed.
Qualifications/Skills
• Medical Laboratory Technologist with current CMLTO membership in good standing.
• 2 years Special Coagulation experience - preferred
• Previous Hematology experience - preferred
• Knowledge of continuous quality improvement and total quality management principles - required
• Knowledge of ACD standards and regulations
• Effective written and oral communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to apply adult education principles an asset
• Strong computer skills that include Word, Excel, and Power Point experience is required
• Detail oriented and able to follow departmental procedures
• Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize work, multiple tasks, projects, and deadlines
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member as well as independently, and adjust to varying work assignments as needed
• Ability to show initiative when needed, and take direction and feedback constructively
• Motivated to learn and pursue opportunities for continuous education
