Summary of Duties
The OR and Related Services seeks a dynamic Advanced Practice Nurse to lead, support and develop the professionalism of health care providers through proven clinical and research skills, commitment to patient-focused care and adult education.
We are looking for strong knowledge, clinical expertise and interest in the area of Perioperative Surgery. In particular there will be a focus on the professional development of emerging leaders and the development of interprofessional education. Duties include working collaboratively with the Patient Care Managers, APNs and other Educators to identify staff education needs and ensure that relevant clinical and educational programs are provided to all staff within the OR Related Services area, with specific responsibility for the Post-Anesthetic Care Unit, Same Day Surgery, Surgical Short Stay Unit, Pre-Admissions Clinic, Transfusion Medicine and as needed.
The successful candidate will work with the Perioperative team to:
• Develop, provide and evaluate education programs that support the development of the staff within OR Related Services
• Plan, coordinate and implement quality improvement initiatives to integrate person centered care, advance best practice and support the professional development of staff.
• Promote teamwork, quality management, competency in clinical skills and patient-focused care. Participates in the implementation/evaluation program/quality and safety of corporate education initiatives. Plans and facilitates orientation of new staff to the various OR & Related units.
• Identify and lead opportunities to conduct and integrate multidisciplinary research projects
• Demonstrate teaching and leadership abilities, conflict management
• Demonstrate the ability to effectively make and manage change
Qualifications/Skills
• Current College of Nurses of Ontario Certificate of Competence
• Master’s degree in Nursing or health-related discipline completed or in progress.
• Minimum 5 years of recent Post Anesthesia Care experience working with patients and families required.
• Critical Care Nursing Certificate required
• Current B.C.L.S. required, ACLS preferred
• Strong knowledge, clinical competence and interest in the areas of primary responsibility
• Previous teaching or leadership experience required
• Skills/experience in adult education, presentations, program design, group facilitation, communication, and team work
• Demonstrated teaching and leadership/coaching abilities
• Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in interprofessional education
• Demonstrates excellence in both written and verbal communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
• Adept at using Microsoft Office including: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
