Summary of Duties
The Odette Cancer Centre is an ambulatory care facility dedicated to the treatment and support of outpatient cancer patients and their families with a large focus on systemic therapy (chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and non-hazardous infusions).This supervisor will be responsible for the daily operations of the chemotherapy suite, the infusion clinic, and the specimen collection areas on both T1 & M6. Duties will include, but are not limited to: monitoring the clinic environment (eg. equipment, supplies, IT systems), ensuring patient safety & mitigating risk through enforcement of policies & procedures, managing human resource requirements and performance-related issues, ongoing recruitment & retention of staff, conducting performance reviews, addressing patient & family concerns, operationalization of centre-wide quality improvement initiatives with ongoing monitoring & evaluation, day-to-day staffing, program planning, development, implementation, & evaluation, facilitating professional development, chairing of site-based team meetings, and organizational meeting participation. Creating a supportive environment for patients and their families through the daily management of appropriate staffing levels, clinic processes, and facilitating interprofessional communication is of utmost importance to this role. This supervisor will be critical to the successful operations of the Odette Cancer Centre systemic therapy program and ambulatory clinic support.
Qualifications/Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree required; BScN preferred
- College of Nurses of Ontario certificate of competence required
- 3-5 years of oncology clinical experience is preferred; chemotherapy knowledge required
- Recent relevant supervisory or leadership experience in health care
- Superior organizational, leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
- Demonstrated coaching and an empowering style of management
- Ability to manage effectively in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment
- Demonstrated commitment to excellence in patient centred care, including shared governance and inter-professional care teams
- Ability to follow through on key initiatives and meet targeted deadlines and deliverables
- Excellent change agent skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Chemotherapy certification required
