Sunnybrook Research Institute is the research enterprise of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, a teaching hospital fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. Research spans three Toronto-based campuses, eight programs and three scientific platforms. Our main aims are to understand and prevent disease, and to develop treatments that enhance and extend life. Our vision is to invent the future of health care. Each year, we conduct about $100 million in research across 500,000 square feet, including in the world’s first Centre for Research in Image-Guided Therapeutics.
We are seeking candidates with an interest in developing new medical technologies that fill needs identified during observation of clinical cases. The position will be supervised by Dr. Brian Courtney, a clinician-scientist in the Schulich Heart Program and Physical Sciences Platform.
Summary of Duties:
The selected candidate(s) will be responsible for making contributions to a team-based effort under Dr. Courtney’s supervision and direction to brainstorm, analyze and develop one or more new concepts to solve a clinically related problem.
Selected individuals will be intricately involved in the ideation, protoyping, development, patenting and early commercialization of one or more new medical technologies.
We are seeking up to 3 candidates for this role.
Qualifications:
- Successful completion of undergraduate Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics degree, with advanced degrees considered an asset
- Exposure to the Medventions training program or similar.
- Strong interpersonal, time management and organizational skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated proficiency in ideation, clinical needs finding and presentation skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of research regulations and guidelines, including SRI’s policies regarding privacy, intellectual property and pre-clinical studies.
