Research Assistant – Sleep Neurology, Sunnybrook Research Institute
Casual (up to 8 hours per week, some flexibility based on patient schedules, and the ability to work after hours as needed)
Dr. Mark Boulos’ Research Laboratory at the Sunnybrook Research Institute is seeking an energetic and experienced individual to perform clinical research activities in a dynamic and collegial environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research manuscript preparation and submission to peer-reviewed journals
- Interact with volunteers and patients with sleep disorders, stroke, dementia, and/or other neurological conditions
- Assist with administering and scoring ambulatory sleep tests
- Assist with patient screening, recruitment and consent, scheduling participant appointments, handling necessary paperwork, and doing data entry
- Conduct and score tests and questionnaires related to sleep, cognition, mood, functional status, quality of life, etc.
- Administer a variety of experimental and clinical measures, including eye-tracking assessments
- Maintain research databases which include patient demographics, clinical, neuroimaging and neurophysiological variables etc.
- Assist with ethics and grant applications, contract research proposals, CV’s, activity reports, literature searches, reference database management, PowerPoint presentations and manuscript submissions as required
- Function as part of a patient-focused team of professionals
- Maintain ongoing, professional communication with staff (doctors, fellows, residents and co-workers) in order to help maintain comprehensive patient care
- Triage patient phone calls as well as calls from families, and other departments with diplomacy and courtesy, ensuring the appropriate personnel are notified of the phone message
QUALIFICATIONS
- The ideal candidate will have a BSc in neuroscience, psychology, or a related discipline. A masters or PhD is an asset.
- Preference will be given to those with experience administering and scoring ambulatory sleep tests; to those with experience coordinating clinical trials and observational research; and to those with experience working with individuals with sleep disorders, stroke, cognitive difficulties, and/or other neurological populations.
- Detail-oriented, accurate, and dependable with strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint).
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to cope in stressful situations.
- Able to work independently and professionally, as well as in a team environment with strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize your workload and the flexibility to adjust to changing work plans, schedules, and deadlines.
- Be a self-motivated team member with a demonstrated ability to show initiative.
