Job Overview

The Sunnybrook Research Institute’s Harquail Centre for Neuromodulation, affiliated with the University of Toronto, is seeking a highly motivated Research Analyst / TMS Technician to join the Interventional Psychiatry Lab led by Dr. Sean Nestor. This role centers on advancing research in neuromodulation therapies for treatment-resistant psychiatric disorders.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing neuroimaging data and performing MRI-guided repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) as part of multiple interventional clinical trials. This is a part-time position requiring a commitment of 2 days per week, with flexibility to increase to up to 4 days per week to provide coverage for rTMS sessions as needed.

 

Key Responsibilities

Commitment: 2 days per week

  • Analyze neuroimaging data in clinical interventional trials with rTMS, including gradient network analysis and static/dynamic brain connectivity.
  • Prepare figures, materials, and written content for presentations, publications, and grant proposals.

Additional coverage (up to 2 days per week, as needed)

  • Administer repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and quantitative electroencephalography (qEEG), and conduct psychiatric, clinical, and functional assessments in participants with depression and post-concussion syndrome as part of MRI-based clinical trial protocols.
  • Document and report treatment-related events (e.g., side effects, adverse events).
  • Support all phases of clinical research, including recruitment, informed consent, data collection, and data management.
  • Prepare and maintain REB submissions, amendments, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate across disciplines while independently managing day-to-day lab operations.

 

Qualifications

  • Honours Bachelor’s degree in psychology, neuroscience, or related field (required)
    • Master’s-level thinking and communication strongly preferred
  • Minimum 1 year experience in clinical research or psychiatry/psychology studies
  • Comfortable juggling multiple tasks and projects in a regulated research environment
  • Experience with:
    • Participant interaction and recruitment
    • Standardized interviews or study questionnaires
    • Data extraction from medical records
    • Ethics board applications and compliance
    • Strong academic writing skills
  • Proficiency in:
    • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
    • REDCap (preferred)
    • Statistical and/or data visualization software (asset)
  • Certifications:
    • Canada GCP, Health Canada Division 5, TCPS2, CPR (or willingness to obtain)

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in clinical data analysis, biostatistics, research ethics, and manuscript/grant writing
  • Experience in TMS administration for clinical populations
  • Interest or prior exposure to neuromodulation techniques, especially rTMS; willingness to be trained in its clinical delivery
  • Previous work on clinical trials involving psychiatric interventions.
