Summary of Duties:
- To provide a broad range of ambulatory oncology nursing care services for cancer patients and their families in the clinical environment. Performing all aspects of patient care processes prescribed by physicians &/or Nurse Practitioners in compliance with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and the Division of Oncology Nursing, nursing responsibilities include comprehensive health assessment, organizing daily work flow, counselling/teaching patients and families, providing care, administration of non-hazardous, non-chemotherapy treatments, development of supportive & therapeutic patient & family relationships, facilitating continuity of care & navigation of the health care system, and support with clinical decision making & patient advocacy.
- The RPN, as an integral member of the interdisciplinary team, will participate in the multidisciplinary management of oncology patients in the ambulatory setting. The RPN will collaborate with the interprofessional team to help address and manage physical, emotional, practical, psychological, informational, social, and spiritual needs. The RPN is accountable for the provision of compassionate and high quality nursing care through the use of evidence-based nursing interventions in compliance with oncology nursing competencies and CNO Standards of practice.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Current registration with the College of Nurse of Ontario
- Registered Practical Nurse Diploma
- 2 years Oncology experience required
- Chemotherapy/Biotherapy course required or willing to obtain and maintain
- Current B.C.L.S.
- Excellent IV insertion skills required
- Ability to access vascular access devices preferred
- Experience in ambulatory care nursing preferred
- Experience in assisting with surgical procedures an asset
- Completion of a Physical Assessment Course an asset
- Must be flexible, adaptable, and have the ability to prioritize
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills necessary
- Computer literacy and typing necessary
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing education and professional development important
