Summary of Duties:

The Technical Assistant will have responsibilities in the Transfusion Medicine and Tissue Bank. This will include processing donor skin allografts. Other responsibilities are: Answering phone calls; receiving, sorting, labelling, and distribution of specimens to work stations; updating patients’ information; filing and retrieving records and specimens; verifying and registering patient demographics; specimen packaging and referrals; loading and unloading specimens from instruments; specimen test setup; equipment monitoring and maintenance; Tissue product, blood and blood product inventory receipt and preparation; reagent receipt and preparation; and other duties as required.

 

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Requires successful completion of Community College program for Medical Laboratory Technician
  • OSMT certification required or CSMLS certification
  • Minimum 3 years recent experience in Blood Bank and/or Tissue Bank
  • Customer service focus required
  • Detail oriented with quality assurance focus required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to adjust to shifting priorities with minimal direction
  • Previous experience with WellSky an asset
  • Proficient computer skills required including MS OFFICE - Excel, Word and Power Point
