Position Overview
Sunnybrook Foundation is seeking a proactive and competent major gift fundraising professional and relationship manager to serve as Senior Philanthropy Officer. The Senior Philanthropy Officer will manage and grow a diverse portfolio of 100-125 prospects, donors, and volunteers developing engagement strategies and solicitation plans in support of the Hospital’s strategic priorities.
With a passion for healthcare philanthropy, experience building credibility and trusting relationships, and an appreciation for the complexity of the hospital environment, the ideal candidate will develop mutually beneficial partnerships with physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, and other subject matter experts within specific areas of care and research, and be skilled at coaching and engaging them in all aspects of philanthropy.

We are growing our team of fundraisers and making strategic investments in preparation for the launch of our bold public-facing comprehensive campaign.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Build and manage a portfolio of 100-125 assigned high-capacity major giving prospects, donors, and volunteers, including individuals, foundations, and corporations.
- Meet or exceed annual targets of $2M-$5M, working with the Philanthropy Director to achieve strategic objectives, performance metrics and financial targets.
- Develop and implement strategies to identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit a range of major gift donors.
- Activate and support fundraising volunteers in securing major gifts from their personal and professional networks.
- Prepare and maintain accuracy of all active donor files including related donor record administration, briefing notes, and contact reports.
- With support and direction from the Philanthropy Director, understand the care program content, vision, and strategic priorities and act as an internal resource on program and major gift activity for other Foundation staff and volunteers.
- As Foundation lead on related approved fundraising priorities, develop cases for support, manage fundraising strategies, and secure philanthropic support in order to realize fundraising goals that are aligned with the hospital’s strategic priorities.
- With the Philanthropy Director, develop mutually beneficial partnerships with hospital stakeholders including physicians, nurses, allied health professionals and other subject matter experts that will advance strategies for grateful patient referrals, prospective donor pipeline and fundraising priority development.
- Collaborate with cross-functional business partners and teams to assist with the development and execution of cultivation, stewardship and/or marketing initiatives to maximize donor engagement.
- Collaborate with Stewardship partners to create effective stewardship and recognition plans for major giving donors to ensure deep and expanded commitment to Sunnybrook.
- Collaborate with other revenue programs to transition and expand donor relationships with Sunnybrook Foundation (i.e. mid-level giving, planned giving, community events).
Qualifications and Competencies
- Proven track record of professional success in securing major philanthropic contributions, at the 6-figure level and above.
- More than 5 years of experience in major gift fundraising, developing and executing gift strategies including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- A passion for healthcare philanthropy with experience in an academic hospital foundation or similarly complex environment.
- Possess a high level of intellectual curiosity toward the work being done at the hospital.
- Proven ability in building strong relationships and working collaboratively with a wide range of constituents including volunteers, donors, program physicians and staff, and internal team members.
- Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- High regard for accuracy and attention to detail with excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple projects and changing competing priorities.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, critical thinking skills, emotional intelligence, and professionalism.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Demonstrates a strong understanding and commitment to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion and applies them in all aspects of work.
- A person of integrity; committed to upholding professional ethics and encouraging philanthropic best practices.
- Knowledge of Raiser's Edge an asset.
Total Rewards Package
The hiring range for this position is $90,000 – 102,000. The salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s years of experience, qualifications and competencies that are relevant to this position. This position is also eligible for performance-based compensation.
In addition to salary, our competitive compensation package also includes, comprehensive health and dental benefits, HOOPP (Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan), hybrid work environment with a minimum of two (2) days in office, two (2) float days each fiscal year and additional Sunny Days (long weekend closures in advance of summer long weekends and Christmas Eve).
