Job Summary and Qualifications:

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs general radiographic examinations and operates imaging equipment in accordance with departmental protocols, professional practice standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Completes imaging requests for Emergency Department (ED), Inpatient (IP), and Outpatient (OP) populations in a timely, safe, and professional manner.

  • Reviews and verifies imaging requisitions for accuracy and completeness; prioritizes workload to address emergency, trauma, and add-on cases as required.

  • Coordinates daily workflow within assigned area and collaborates with colleagues to ensure equitable distribution of workload.

  • Ensures strict adherence to radiation safety standards, including ALARA principles, proper shielding, and compliance with institutional and legislative requirements.

  • Provides safe, respectful, and patient-centered care by:

    • Confirming patient identity using approved identifiers

    • Reviewing clinical history and relevant documentation

    • Explaining procedures clearly

    • Obtaining informed consent when required

  • Monitors patients during procedures and responds appropriately to changes in condition, escalating concerns according to established protocols.

  • Accurately documents examinations and maintains complete records within RIS/PACS and hospital information systems in accordance with departmental policies and privacy legislation.

  • Performs routine quality control and basic equipment checks; reports equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or operational issues to the Senior Technologist and/or Manager.

  • Assists radiologists, radiology residents, and fellows as required within the division.

  • Participates in the orientation and training of new staff and students as directed.

  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of imaging rooms and equipment in accordance with infection prevention and control standards.

  • Works rotating shifts, weekends, statutory holidays, and participates in standby/on-call coverage in accordance with departmental requirements and the collective agreement.

  • Provides coverage across multiple sites within the organization as operationally required.

  • Reports to the Senior Technologist and Manager, Diagnostic Imaging, and performs other related duties consistent with the classification.

 

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved Medical Radiation Sciences program (Radiography).

  • Current registration and good standing with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO).

  • Current CAMRT certification.

  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of radiation safety standards and general radiographic techniques.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced acute care environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Ability to travel between sites as required.
