Summary of Duties
We currently have a 15-month temporary full-time position for a Pharmacist in the Ambulatory Patient Pharmacy (Outpatient Pharmacy). Key responsibilities of a Pharmacist can be broadly divided into four areas:.
- Drug Distribution
- Check accuracy and therapeutics of prescriptions;
- Intake of prescriptions, including gathering of necessary information for processing prescriptions through Kroll Pharmacy Software (paperless); and
- Ensuring workflow in the pharmacy is maintained.
- Direct Patient Care
- Counsel patients on prescription and non-prescription medications;
- Perform MedsChecks & Medication Reconciliation;
- Provide smoking cessation counselling and prescribing as needed;
- Device training, including injections, inhalers, sensors, and spacers;
- Administration of vaccines included in the expanded scope of practice; and
- Prescribing for Minor Ailments as allowed by current expanded scope.
- Problem Solving
- Clarifying, adapting and extending prescriptions;
- Answer drug information questions and requests;
- Inquire with patients and/or family members about insurance and/or resolving billing issues as needed; and
- Documentation of interactions/counselling.
- Education
- Participate in the education of students, including volunteers; and
- Plan & participate in pharmacy-run clinic days.
Must be available to work a Saturday shift as per the Pharmacist schedule.
Qualifications/Skills
- Current licensure by the Ontario College of Pharmacists (or licensure within 18 months of hire)
- Injection trained, including CPR/First Aid Certification
- Previous outpatient pharmacy experience an asset
- Able to work well in fast-paced, sometimes stressful work environment
- Self-motivated and able to take initiative
- Demonstrate ability to work well in a multi-disciplinary team environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Well organized with strong time management skills
- Strong customer service skills
