We currently have a full-time vacancy for a Senior Pharmacy Technician within Extended Care Pharmacy, at the Bayview site. The primary responsibility of the successful incumbent is to oversee and participate in the operations for all medication distribution and procurement as needed for the Extended Care Pharmacy. Responsibilities also include workflow management, defining responsibilities and scheduling of team members, ensuring operations are completed and the monitoring established quality assurance processes for medication distribution to ensure maximal patient safety.

 

Summary of duties:

  • Communication liaison between management and pharmacy technicians
  • Maintain and assure all NAPRA and Ontario College of Pharmacists standards are met.
  • Supervise, schedule and assign other pharmacy technicians in the assigned area and as needed
  • Rotate in daily front line duties for at least 1 week each month.
  • Perform any needed billing procedures and reconcile accounts.
  • Monitor performance and re-educate or retrain staff, if necessary.
  • Be available to assist in emergency situations e.g. staffing shortage situations, system/equipment/automation failures, extraordinary patient surge activity
  • Provide input and assistance in set-up of new service areas
  • Participate on departmental and interdepartmental committees as required
  • Contribute to the development long-term strategies and capacity planning for meeting efficient medication distribution in the organization.
  • Serve as an educator for other pharmacy team members, through the creation and modification of standard operating procedures and educational and instructional materials.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting and working with other stakeholders to keep sustainable inventory and drug distribution as needed.
  • Perform or oversee audits, workload measurement data collection and analysis, to optimize workflow, and inventory management as needed.
  • Oversee certification/recertification processes of pharmacy technician
  • Act as preceptor when requested for pharmacy technician students
  • Communicate and arrange for clinics setup and medications delivery  as needed
  • Promote Pharmacy based interdisciplinary efforts to facilitate optimal use of our resources as per the department strategy.

 

This is an excellent opportunity for a pharmacy technician interested in robotics and informatics to expand their skills in this area. The successful candidate will be involved in processes related to the implementation of new equipment.

 

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Must be licensed as a pharmacy technician Part A with the Ontario College of Pharmacists.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience as a hospital pharmacy technician.
  • A minimum one-year experience as senior technician or leading projects is preferable.
  • A minimum one year experience in extended care pharmacy is preferable.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment
