Position Summary
Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is undertaking Project REACH, a multi-year initiative to implement Oracle Health’s Hospital Information System (HIS).
We are seeking a CCL Report Writer to support data extraction, reporting, and analytics within the Cerner Millennium environment. This role will focus on developing and optimizing Cerner Command Language (CCL) scripts to enable clinical, operational, and regulatory reporting needs throughout implementation and post go-live.
This role bridges clinical workflows and technical data structures—ensuring accurate, performant, and meaningful reporting to support decision-making, data migration, and system validation.
Key Responsibilities
CCL Development & Reporting
- Design, develop, test, and maintain complex CCL scripts to extract data from Cerner Millennium (Oracle) databases.
- Translate clinical and operational requirements into technical report specifications.
- Develop reports supporting patient care, operational metrics, quality improvement, and regulatory reporting.
- Utilize advanced SQL constructs within CCL.
Data Analysis & Validation
- Analyze healthcare data across domains such as patient demographics, encounters, orders, and clinical events.
- Support data validation, reconciliation, and migration activities for Project REACH.
- Partner with Data & BI teams to ensure data accuracy and consistency across reporting outputs.
Performance Optimization
- Troubleshoot and optimize slow-running CCL scripts and queries.
- Improve report efficiency to minimize system resource utilization.
- Apply indexing strategies and query tuning best practices within Oracle environments.
Integration & Data Support
- Support reporting requirements tied to system integrations (HL7, FHIR, interfaces).
- Assist in validating inbound/outbound data flows and downstream reporting impacts.
- Collaborate with Integration and Application teams to ensure end-to-end data integrity.
Documentation & Support
- Document report logic, technical specifications, and data mappings.
- Provide ad hoc and user-defined reporting support to clinical and operational stakeholders.
- Develop error handling, logging, and validation checks within scripts.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with clinicians, analysts, and project teams to define reporting needs.
- Participate in design sessions, testing cycles, and go-live readiness activities.
- Support end-user understanding of reports and underlying data structures.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or diploma in Health Informatics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- 3–5+ years of hands-on experience with Cerner CCL development.
- Strong experience with SQL and Oracle databases.
- Proven understanding of Cerner Millennium data model (e.g., person, encounter, clinical_event, orders).
- Experience working in Linux/Unix environments for script execution and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with healthcare workflows (inpatient, outpatient, ancillary services).
- Experience supporting EHR implementations, data migration, or reporting modernization initiatives is preferred.
