The Sunnybrook Research Institute and the Division of Nephrology is seeking a highly motivated, experienced clinical research professional to join our research program as a Research Technician. The successful candidate will be based on-site and work closely with Principal Investigators within the Division of Nephrology and interdisciplinary teams to support research activities within the Nephrology research portfolio.

 

Summary of Duties:

  • Function as part of an interdisciplinary, patient-focused team of professionals to provide oversight of a community-based program to support clinical trials
  • Recruit participants (e.g., identify potential participants, obtain informed consent, collect demographic and clinical data)
  • Oversee launch and expansion of community-based programs for clinical trials with external partners (community pharmacies and hospital based clinical trialists) with a plan to meet pre-determined milestones
  • Maintain relevant regulatory files and execute study-related administrative tasks such as filing of study documents, bookings and requests, administrative binders, etc.
  • Oversight of all patient related activities to ensure success of community based clinical trial programs (referrals from community sites, engagement of potential patients, oversight of booking of screening visits) in line with ethics approval and any sponsor requirements
  • Development and implementation of an evaluation program to demonstrate success of community-based programs for clinical trials
  • Develop a financial strategy focused on generating revenue for clinical trial programs through engagement with industry clinical trial sponsors
  • Timely communication with other members
  • Self-directed learning and regular communication.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of clinical research or relevant experience in an academic hospital setting
  • Bachelor’s degree in health-related field
  • MSc or comparable degree or 2 additional years of experience in health-related field focused on clinical research, clinical trials or epidemiology
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of research regulations and guidelines (ICH/GCP, Health Canada, Tri-Council Policy, Declaration of Helsinki, etc.)
  • Advanced proficiency in computer skills (Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe)
  • Experience writing grants and writing scientific manuscripts is an asset 
  • Experience coordinating patient engagement as part of research or community-based initiatives is an asset
  • Experience with intellectual patents, cyber security and legal contracts is an asset
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • A “can do” attitude: Flexibility to work in a complex environment with ability to multitask and prioritize to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrates initiative and the ability to work effectively both independently to take lead on assigned projects and as part of a team
