Speech Language Pathologist - Interprofessional Practice and Holland 7E - Regular Full-Time 2026-18065

Summary of Duties

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre has an opportunity for a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to provide comprehensive swallowing and communication services for patients at Sunnybrook’s Bayview Campus and Holland Centre. The SLP will work three day per week as part of the Priority Coverage Team that receives referrals across acute care units from unit-based SLPs, and two days per week at the Holland Centre, leading SLP services for transitional care.

The Speech-Language Pathologist must be adaptive to work in any acute care and transitional care unit and thrives on the opportunity to work in different practice areas. The fast-paced, mixed caseload includes swallowing and communication services across diverse patient populations. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with patients, families and interprofessional team members to provide evidence-informed best practice. 

Responsibilities Include:

• Assess swallowing and communication
• Plan, implement and monitor swallowing and communication impairment interventions
• Provide education and counselling for patients experiencing communication and/or swallowing difficulties
• Provide education and counselling to interprofessional team members and caregivers regarding safe swallowing and communication strategies
• Manage complex discharges within the transitional care program, including education for patients and families
• Maintain patient records and workload measurement in accordance with facility and professional standards
• Act as an SLP resource to the SLP team, the interprofessional team, families and students
• Maintain and upgrade skills and knowledge through continuing education and seek opportunities for knowledge dissemination
• In support of Sunnybrook’s full affiliation with the University of Toronto, participate in teaching speech-language pathology students on an ongoing basis including acting as a clinical educator for placements; supervision of one student placement annually is expected.
• Participate in interprofessional education activities and opportunities
• Participate in SLP Professional Council, Program and hospital-wide meetings, committees and planning as required
• Practice in accordance with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario

Qualifications/Skills

• Current CASLPO registration
• Minimum of 2 years experience in a hospital setting, preferred
• Previous experience working with medically complex patients in both acute care and transitional care
• Experience with dysphagia and communication assessment and management
• Experience providing patient/family education is essential
• Experience with videofluoroscopic evaluation of swallowing required
