Summary of Duties

The Medical Physics Department in the Odette Cancer Centre (OCC) at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, Ontario, has an opening for a full-time, permanent electronics technologist. The OCC is an academic comprehensive cancer centre whose Radiation Treatment Program (RTP) serves over 7500 new patients per year through its external beam (Varian and Elekta linacs, MR-linac, Gamma Knife, orthovoltage) and brachytherapy (700 patients per year) programs. The OCC is home to some of the most advanced radiation therapy technologies.  Sunnybrook’s mission is to care for our patients and their families when it matters most; its vision is to invent the future of health care.

 

The Electronics Technologist is responsible for performing duties related to preventative maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and testing of radiation therapy equipment. This includes preventive maintenance, morning equipment start-up, evaluating and correcting equipment malfunctions, maintaining accurate service records, maintaining a parts inventory, repairing electrical and electronic equipment, designing and constructing specialized electronic equipment, and evaluating machine performance data. In-house and vendor training on linear accelerators and associated equipment will be provided. 

 

The position reports to the Head of the Department of Medical Physics.

 

Qualifications/Skills

•   Successful completion of a Diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology.

•   Experience with radiation-emitting equipment, high voltage, vacuum, microwave, electronic and computer control systems or motion control.

•   Service experience on linear accelerators is preferred.

•   Ability to repair systems to the component level using schematics, multi-meter and oscilloscope.

•   Problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making

•   Mechanical aptitude with the ability to take apart and reassemble components using small hand tools.

•   Data and computer software skills including electronic logging of machine issues and searching resources and databases for solutions.

•   Ability to work safely and to promote safe working environments and practices.

•   Excellent communication skills

•   Ability to interact effectively with other healthcare professionals
