Position Overview

The Senior Content Specialist will play a key role in developing integrated communications that boldly tell the Sunnybrook brand story and support the Foundation’s awareness, stewardship, and fundraising goals. Reporting to the Marketing Manager, this individual is a passionate storyteller who will be an integral part of a broader team of communications professionals that spans the Foundation and Hospital teams to create compelling content across a range of communication channels and audiences.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the Marketing Manager, leads the execution of the Foundation’s content strategy and works with stakeholders to develop an integrated content calendar that supports all stages of the donor journey, including fundraising initiatives across multiple channels: email, direct mail, website, social media, advertising, and internal communications.
  • Sources stories for Foundation initiatives, working in collaboration with the Foundation’s donor communications team and the Hospital strategic communications team to establish a pipeline of fresh content and identify content for repurposing.
  • Generates ideas to enhance storytelling across channels and executes in varied formats, including short-form and long-form video, graphics, photography, and infographics.
  • Interviews subject-matter experts, patients, supporters, and staff, and converts interviews into channel-appropriate communications.
  • Manages and keeps the content/story repository up to date and keeps the content pipeline full as identified within Project One Voice.
  • Writes a broad range of communications and marketing materials, including brand messaging, web and social media content, email copy, video scripts, event speaking notes, press releases, event collateral, and staff communications.
  • Edits and proofreads communications produced by other members of the team and staff across the organization for quality and consistency with brand messaging and tone.
  • Supports the development and execution of internal communications for the Foundation.
  • Establishes and manages timelines for communications materials from conception to completion, including approvals and working with collaborators to meet deadlines.
  • Contributes to the measurement and evaluation of content and generates insights.

 

Qualifications and Competencies

Below are qualifications and competencies we believe the successful candidate will need for this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of progressive experience in corporate communications, marketing, or a newsroom environment.
  • Proven track record writing across a wide range of formats — brand messaging, web and social copy, email, video scripts, speaking notes, and internal communications.
  • Experience managing external agencies and leading integrated, multi-channel communications initiatives.
  • Experience interviewing subject-matter experts, patients, and staff, and turning those stories into channel-appropriate content.
  • Experience in healthcare, philanthropy, or the not-for-profit sector is considered a strong asset.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with a sharp eye for brand voice, tone, and consistency.
  • Skilled at sourcing, developing, and repurposing stories to keep a content pipeline full.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to run timelines from concept to completion, including approvals and cross-team collaboration.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, comfortable working across Foundation and Hospital teams.
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines without compromising quality.

 

Total Rewards Package

This role has been evaluated with an annual salary range of $82,000-102,000. The hiring range for this position is $82,000-90,000. The salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s years of experience, qualifications and competencies that are relevant to this position.

 

In addition to salary, our competitive compensation package also includes, comprehensive health and dental benefits, HOOPP (Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan), hybrid work environment with a minimum of two (2) days in office, two (2) float days each fiscal year and additional Sunny Days (paid Foundation office closures around select long weekends and in late December).
