Sunnybrook Research Institute (SRI) is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Research Laboratory Manager to oversee the daily operations of my research facilities within the Biological Sciences Platform

 

Reporting to the Principal Investigator(s) / Senior Scientist(s), the Wet Lab Manager ensures a safe, compliant, efficiently organized, and collaborative research environment. This position bridges experimental research, facility maintenance, biosafety compliance, vendor relations, and team mentorship. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on technical bench skills in molecular and cellular biology, along with proven administrative and operational leadership.

 

Summary of Duties:

  • Plans, designs and executes bench-top and preclinical testing activities, including study preparation, experimental design, troubleshooting, and data collection.
  • Develops standard operating procedures for immunological, biochemical, and molecular biology techniques (e.g., western blot, immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence staining, ELISA)
  • Collects, verifies, and summarizes experimental data, while preparing draft statistical reports and documentation as required
  • Contributes to development of research proposals and grant applications, by drafting technical sections and generating preliminary data
  • Maintains laboratory operations by managing inventories, ordering supplies, preparing materials, cleaning and sterilizing equipment
  • Ensures compliance with safety, animal care, and regulatory standards, including maintaining biosafety certificate, following guidelines, tracking renewals, and promoting proper occupational safety practices
  • Provides technical support, trains and oversees work‑study, graduate/post-doctoral trainees, and laboratory assistants
  • Strong interpersonal, time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft office suite, statistical analyses, confocal microscopy, histology.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research regulations and guidelines for example: WHIMIS.

 

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of BSc.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in wet laboratory research
