Summary of Duties

The Frederick W. Thompson Anxiety Disorders Centre, within Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, is Canada’s only specialized intensive program treating severe Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).  We currently have an opportunity for a clinical psychologist to join our intensive live-in and day treatment program for a 16 month contract, as a member of our multi-disciplinary treatment team, working along side experts in the field of OCD and related disorders.   This contract will be ideal for those excited about gaining experience in a hospital based intensive treatment setting with an interest in complex populations.  It will provide opportunities for a range of clinical and leadership activities including CBT/ERP, assessment and case formulation, trainee supervision and teaching, team consultation, group and individual therapeutic sessions. 

 

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Provide individual CBT for clients within the program, including exposure and response prevention therapy both onsite and offsite (e.g., home/community exposures)
  • Conduct psychological assessments (e.g., psychodiagnostic and personality)
  • Conduct intake assessments to determine eligibility for new referrals
  • Facilitate group treatment involving a various modalities (e.g. CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, ACT)
  • Co-facilitate treatment groups for the Thompson Center outpatient services as required
  • Document within  EMR for all clinical contact maintained as per professional and hospital requirements, including daily progress notes, assessment/intake reports, discharge summaries
  • Participate in weekly case conferencing and daily rounds
  • Provide professional consultative services to all regulated health professionals within the program
  • Provide clinical supervision for psychology trainees within the program, including; maintaining supervision records, overseeing delivery of assessment and individual and group psychotherapy, signing off on notes.  
  • Participate in team education and training activities
  • Support the Centre’s education mandate by developing and delivering training, assisting in building capacity with community partners to deliver evidence based OCD treatment, participating in workshops, conferences, and other education activities
  • Involvement in various research-related activities (i.e. journal reviewer; conference submission reviews)

 

Qualifications/Skills

  • Ph.D. in psychology Registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO) is required
  • Completion of a 12 month internship
  • Minimum 2years of clinical experience required
  • Training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, group facilitation skills, and other modalities (DBT, ACT, MBCT, BA, MI)
  • Psycho-diagnostic assessment and psychotherapy skills
  • Ability to use critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills to solve patient care issues
  • Able to provide clinical supervision and consultation
  • Clinical experience with a range of psychological disorders (OCD, depression, anxiety disorders, severe and complex mental illness, personality disorders) preferred
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task and manage ongoing projects in an efficient manner
  • Experience with quality improvement initiatives
  • Demonstrate program development and evaluation skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a collaborative environment.
