Reporting to the Manager of Respiratory Therapy, the Registered Respiratory Therapist works at all times within an interprofessional model of care. Respiratory Therapists provide respiratory therapy service 24/7 to patients in the many Intensive Care Units, Trauma Room, Emergency Department, wards and the Ross Tilley Burn Centre.

 

They are responsible for (but not limited to):

  • Ventilation management - weaning and discontinuation
  • Performing as a member of Code Teams, Trauma Teams and Rapid Response Teams
  • Performing airway management including intubations and tracheostomy tube insertions
  • Delivering respiratory care where required
  • Supervision, education and evaluation of students assigned by the Clinical Coordinator

 

 

Qualifications/Skills

  • Current registration with the College of Respiratory Therapy of Ontario (CRTO)
  • Degree/Diploma from an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program
  • Must hold current certification in BCLS
  • Previous experience in Acute Care and Critical Care environments
  • Thoroughly familiar with and competent in all aspects of Respiratory Therapy
  • Demonstrated clinical and technical ability
  • Mature, independent and self-motivated
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate and apply critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to handle stressful environment
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Commitment to personal and professional development
  • Proven ability to work well in a team environment
  • Excellent attendance record
