Job Overview

The Sunnybrook Research Institute and the Department of Psychiatry, affiliated with the University of Toronto, is seeking an energetic and efficient postdoctoral fellow to work in suicide prevention.  The individual will perform epidemiological and clinical research activities and lead multiple research studies in a dynamic and collegial environment. This individual will be under the primary supervision of Dr. Mark Sinyor and will also work and collaborate with a diverse team of research staff and other PIs from the suicide prevention research group. They will contribute to and utilize datasets such as a chart review database of coroner records and mainstream and social media databases. 

The successful candidate will have:

  • A Ph.D. in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Social Work, Psychiatry, Public Health or relevant fields, with preference given to individuals with significant research experience in suicide prevention.
  • Significant experience with quantitative research with advanced analytical skills for longitudinal multivariate data (i.e. regression models, factor analysis, cluster analysis).
  • Experience with data analysis software such as SPSS, SAS, R, M+, STATA etc.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Prior experience with scientific writing and publishing
  • Significant experience with qualitative research methods and analyses (i.e. chart review, text coding, thematic analysis) is an asset.
  • Previous clinical research trial experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Multitask and coordinate multiple projects/studies with guidance from the principal investigator.
  • Liaise with investigators and study staff to ensure the consistency and quality of all study procedures.
  • Coordinate and manage data collection, delivery, entry, verification, management, analysis, and reporting.
  • Assist in interpreting results and preparing material for presentation, publications, and/or grants.
  • Prepare research ethics board applications and amendments and maintain study compliance with all terms.
  • Take the lead in drafting and submitting scientific grants.
  • Work independently as well as within a collaborative environment.
  • Assist with the day-to-day operations of ongoing studies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
