Summary of Duties:

The Physiotherapist (in collaboration with the interprofessional team) is responsible for providing person centred patient assessments and interventions for patients with various conditions and complex needs while in the Critical Care Unit as part of the Trauma program. Works with the physiotherapists and other members of the patient care team to foster, enhance and support best practice. Participates in quality improvement initiatives, evaluative processes that include the use of standardized and valid outcome measures, report writing, and research activities. Participates in continuing professional development activities including the provision of clinical and educational in-services that fosters ongoing learning, professionalism, interprofessional collaborations, and best practices in physiotherapy for ICU patients. Participation of supervision of physical therapy students on an ongoing basis. Is a resource; for the education of interprofessional students as required. Is an expert resource for; staff, students, and other health care providers related to physiotherapy. Participates on appropriate committees pertaining to the operation of the Critical Care Unit. Participates in discipline-specific activities within Physiotherapy Services. Practices in accordance with the College of Physiotherapy of Ontario standards of practice.

 

Qualifications/Skills

  • MSc[PT] or equivalent

  • Registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario

  • Rostered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario for Tracheal Suctioning and

  • Administering a Substance by Inhalation

  • One to two years of general acute care physiotherapy experience preferred

  • Assessment and treatment experience with older adults (65 years+) who have complex

    health issues, including confusion, dementia, delirium, falls, weakness and decreased mobility

    or ambulation

  • Strong ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Superior ability to quickly build trusting relationships as a new team member into an

  • established interprofessional team environment

  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills

  • Member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association preferred
