Summary of Duties
Pharmacy technicians play a key role in providing personalized pharmaceutical care to cancer patients. The Odette Cancer Centre pharmacy technicians are involved in specialized medication dispensing of take-home medications and interact directly with patients going through an often stressful journey. They routinely solve many logistical problems for our patients and work closely with pharmacists, drug access navigators, nurses and physicians to ensure patients receive their prescriptions accurately and on time. As a specialty pharmacy, a majority of our prescriptions involve complicated adjudication and patient support programs. Odette pharmacy technicians are also responsible for sterile compounding of individualized chemotherapy doses for over 100 patients daily in the chemotherapy clinic. This involves many different drugs as well as clinical trial medications. Several different software programs are used in these dispensing functions, and technicians must also be competent in mathematical calculations and be able to efficiently prioritize multiple demands. Technician duties also include inventory management, ordering and receiving of drugs and supplies.

Qualifications/Skills
•    Current licensure by the Ontario College of Pharmacists
•    Retail pharmacy experience preferred, including experience with Point of Sale systems
•    Knowledge of retail pharmacy computer systems such as Kroll an asset
•    Able to work in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment
•    Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment
•    Self-motivated and able to take initiative
•    Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills
•    Excellent communication skills
•    Reliable and punctual
•    Customer service skills and empathetic manner
•    Experience in aseptic medication preparation an asset
•    Knowledge of hospital-based oncology computer systems an asset
