Summary of Duties:

Blood transfusion and tissue banking activities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Routine testing duties within the Blood and Tissue Bank (group and screen, crossmatching, receipt, storage, product preparation and distribution of blood and tissue products)

  • Provide technical, scientific education and supportive services to assist in the provision of patient care.

  • Promotes activities which enhance best practice for quality of service and a safe working environment

 

Qualifications/Skills:

  • C.M.L.T.O. registration or registration in progress

  • Minimum 1 year recent Blood and Tissue Bank experience required

  • Ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization

  • Ability to work as a part of a team and independently as required

  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced, changing environment

  • Knowledge and understanding of CQI

  • Knowledge of current Blood and Tissue Bank Standards and Regulations (CSA, CSTM, AABB, AATB and Health Canada)

  • Computer skills required

  • Flexibility/adaptability required

  • Knowledge of quality assurance practices required
