Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is offering to sponsor nurses who are interested in completing an accredited Critical Care Program. This is an exciting opportunity to diversify your career and develop critical care skills. Candidates selected to participate in this full-time program will be provided with a conditional offer of full-time employment in one of the following units:

  • Critical Care Unit (CRCU)
  • Ross Tilley Burn Centre (RTBC)
  • Medical/Surgical ICU (D4ICU)
  • B5ICU
  • Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
  • Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU)
  • Cath Lab

 

Course Starts: Winter/Spring 2024

This offer includes your full-time salary while in the course and tuition costs. Books and any other required material are the responsibility of the candidate. Upon successful completion of the program, both academically and clinically, the staffing needs of the unit of hire will determine your orientation plan.

 

Qualifications/ Skills:

  • Current registration with the Ontario College of Nurses
  • Current BCLS certificate
  • Current Fit Mask Testing
  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred
  • Minimum 1 year experience with patients in Acute Care setting preferred.
  • Consideration may also be given to those who completed their nursing consolidation on a Critical Care unit
  • Successful completion of the ICU review quiz
  • Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrated a commitment to continuing education within the past 2 years with emphasis placed on courses/conferences related to: advanced acute care nursing concepts and skills, such as physical assessment, Coronary Care 1 & 2.
  • Demonstrated commitment to organizational initiatives such as best practices, participation in nursing council, unit committees, and quality improvement projects
  • Demonstrated effective ability in: interpersonal relationships; oral and written communication skills; organization skills; priority setting skills; problem solving; decision making; facilitating team work; conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate and apply critical thinking skills to patient care
  • Demonstrated ability to handle stressful environments in a positive manner
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently and as a part of the multidisciplinary team
