RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Manager, Reporting and Audit, the responsibilities include:
- Coordinate and complete annual financial statements and note disclosures, including preparation and review of supporting documents
- Prepare, coordinate and review Ministry required submissions, including annual consolidation and ensure compliance with reporting deadlines
- Prepare and/or review working papers supporting audit of annual financial statements and special audits
- Manage assigned balance sheet accounts by performing reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies, preparing necessary adjusting journal entries
- Actively participate in the month-end closing and preparation of monthly financial statements, including support and presentation of variance analysis
- Prepare balance sheet forecasts
- Act as an subject matter expert within the organization for accounting and audit related issues
- Participate in identifying and implementing process improvements throughout the department, including accounting policy development
- Lead ad-hoc financial reporting related projects by providing analysis and strategic insights to drive decision making
- Review and document accounting transactions, provide guidance and analyze emerging accounting issues to enable understanding of the impact to the Hospital
- Perform special “internal audit” reviews as necessary including determining audit/review approach, executing and arriving at recommendations
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completed Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation coupled with a degree in business
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in a financial reporting role in a high volume, large sized organization or a public accounting firm
- Detailed understanding of accounting concepts and generally accepted accounting principles
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated organizational, leadership, judgment, analytical, critical thinking and decision-making skills and strong attention to detail.
- A self-starter with the ability to handle multiple job responsibilities, set priorities, problem solve and work with all levels of staff and management
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft applications, proficient with MS Excel
- Experience working with SAP or another leading ERP system
- Flexibility to work off-hours in time sensitive situations
- Healthcare experience preferred
- Previous internal or external audit experience preferred
