Summary of Duties

The Chiropodist is responsible for establishing, maintaining and promoting Chiropody services to inpatient and outpatient populations and community clients following standards of practice established by the College of Chiropodists of Ontario.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assess patient needs, develop and implement a treatment program in accordance with the professional college’s standards of practice.
  2. Ensure that the practice site is sufficiently equipped and maintained, and that procedures are in place to assure safety for both patients and staff.
  3. Educate patients on their treatment program and proper maintenance and prevention techniques.
  4. Maintain a record of workload statistics and participate in Hospital wide quality improvement initiatives as they relate to the Chiropody function.
  5. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to establish effective means of communication between the Hospital and patient populations requiring Chiropody services.
  6. Educate staff on proper foot care for patients and prevention techniques.

Qualifications/Skills

1. Registered Chiropodist with the College of Chiropody of Ontario.

  1. Demonstrated interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and the community.
  2. Previous experience practicing chiropody, preferable in a rehabilitation environment.
  3. CPR certification at the Basic Rescuer Level.
  4. Experience and interest in promoting fee-for-service practice is also an asset.
