Summary of Duties

The Senior Technologist will be responsible for providing technical, scientific, educational and supportive service to both internal and external users of the Transfusion Medicine and Tissue Bank. In collaboration with management and other senior technologists the Senior Technologist in the Transfusion Medicine and Tissue Bank will also be responsible for the following:

 

Offering support to divisional processes such as interviews and staff scheduling. Organizing workflow and delegating responsibilities as required. Communicating with internal/external clients. Generating daily, weekly and monthly reports as required. Ensuring effective communication is maintained with all levels of medical, technical staff and management regarding technical issues. Supporting and assisting staff activities to enhance safe practice and quality improvement in the lab. Providing leadership through mentorship and sharing of knowledge and expertise.

 

Qualifications/Skills

  • Current CMLTO registration as a General Medical Laboratory Technologist required
  • ART certification or BSc preferred
  • CTBS certification an asset
  • Five (5) years recent Transfusion Medicine and Tissue Bank experience in a hospital setting required
  • Demonstrating sound knowledge and understanding of all aspects of transfusion medicine and tissue banking
  • Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills with the ability to foster and support a team environment
  • Knowledge of adult education principles
  • Experience with teaching residents, students and staff
  • Knowledge of continuous quality improvement and total quality management techniques required
  • Demonstrated effective problem solving, conflict resolution and decision making practices
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels
  • Proficient computer skills which include data base management experience
