Summary of Duties:

  • The Educator will report to the Director of the Operating Room and Related Services and works collaboratively with the MDR Supervisors, MDR staff, ORRS PCMs, APNs and other program Educators to identify staff education needs.
  • Develop policies and procedures for the Medical Device Reprocessing  
  • A subject matter technical expert in all aspects of medical device reprocessing and have previous experience in a preceptor, lead, coordinator, or supervisory role.
  • Coordinate and conduct orientation of staff and new hires and recertification of core competencies
  • Responsible for the assessment, implementation, planning, evaluation and supportive application of clinical knowledge and the translation of knowledge to practice to meet targeted department needs.
  • The Educator will support compliance and evaluation against Hospital policies and procedures, Best practices, Infection Prevention and Control policies and the Canadian Standards Association (CSA)  standards
  • Participate in committees/sub-committees to provide expertise in reprocessing education and implementation strategies.
  • Participates in recruitment process for new staff.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Successful completion of Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Program through an accredited College.
  • Undergraduate degree an asset
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in Medical Device Reprocessing
  • Computer and software proficiency
  • Knowledge of Instrument tracking system required
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology required
  • Effective knowledge transfer, program planning and evaluation skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills to facilitate identification and development of staff learning needs
  • A strong desire to promote professional practice and excellence in evidence-based, patient centered care.
  • Demonstrated ability in teaching, program planning and evaluation strategies.
  • Proven ability to facilitate ongoing staff development through mentoring, coaching, and counseling skills.
  • Ability to use and apply adult learning principles in teaching and learning opportunities
  • Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
