Build the Future of Health Care from the Frontlines

Are you passionate about solving real-world challenges in health care through innovation? The Medventions Internship Program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre offers aspiring innovators a unique opportunity to work on high-impact medical technology projects embedded within clinical environments.

About Medventions

Medventions is a high-intensity, hospital-based innovation program hosted by Sunnybrook Research Institute. Over four months, interdisciplinary teams of students and early-career professionals collaborate with leading clinicians, researchers, and industry mentors to identify unmet clinical needs, generate novel ideas, and develop early-stage prototypes that aim to transform patient care.

Emergency Medicine Track: Work inside one of Canada’s busiest Emergency Departments to address acute care challenges. This track offers a unique opportunity to innovate on the frontlines of acute care, where seconds matter and impact is immediate. Focus areas include (but are not limited to):

  • Redesigning emergency workflows and communication
  • Improving coordination during trauma and resuscitation support
  • Leveraging AI and decision support tools at the point of care
  • Enhancing triage, monitoring, and patient handoffs

Participants will either:

  • Identify new clinical problems through direct observation and clinical immersion, or
  • Work on pre-validated, high-priority clinical needs already identified by Sunnybrook physicians.

Program Structure

The internship spans three immersive phases:

  1. Clinical Immersion & Needs Identification
  2. Ideation & Concept Development
  3. Prototyping & Early Validation

Interns will work in interdisciplinary teams with support from clinical, engineering, and business mentors.
