Summary of Duties

Working with the professional team, the Patient Service Partner participates in the caring of adult and adolescent patients by providing a variety of support services to the team and patients in the Garry Hurvitz Brain Sciences Program Neuro modulation clinic G2. The successful candidate will participate as a member of the team in a manner that reflects the Hospital philosophy and mission of service. The Patient Service Partner working on G2 will be required to assist with patient care, and support of clinic.

  • Caring for patients with a variety of mood disorders in adult and adolescent patients
  • Able to demonstrate understanding of the components of de-escalation techniques during behavioural crisis
  • Accompanying patients from GG to G2 and other areas as needed
  • Ordering/restocking and replenishing necessary supplies for the unit Assist patients to do laundry
  • Adhere to all cleaning protocols
  • Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives
  • Perform other duties as required under the direction of the Nurse
  • Ability to engage compassionately with patients while still adhering to appropriate staff/patient boundaries

 

Qualifications/Skills

  • Minimum Grade 11 or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario Ministry of Education
  • Applicants who have a PSW certificate or completed the Sunnybrook PSP (formerly PSA) course will be given priority
  • Demonstrated proficiency with written and oral communication skills
  • Recent experience as a PSP at SHSC preferred
  • Must possess an Infection Control Core Competency Certificate
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification required
  • Ability to work well as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and to handle various tasks within a limited time frame
  • Must be accustomed to high patient acuity
  • Flexibility and willingness to take direction
  • Liaise with patients and visitors on a regular basis demonstrating excellent customer service
  • Two (2) years of related health care experience; Mental Health experience required
  • Experience in dealing with a complex demanding adult and adolescent patient populations
  • Demonstrate empathy and dedication to a therapeutic environment
