Reporting to the Director of Strategy & Research Services, the Team Lead, Strategy & Research Services (Grants & Awards) is responsible for the following functions within SRI:

  • Oversee the direction, guidance and support, including strategic statements and budget overviews, for large operating and/or infrastructure grant applications including federal, provincial and private foundations
  • Support the scientific recruitment  through performance-based assessments of candidates and for the internal review of scientists; Assessment of candidates for award/prize nominations
  • Manage relationships with the University of Toronto, Toronto Academic Health Sciences Network, Council of Academic Hospitals of Ontario etc. and represent SRI in various committees with utmost professionalism
  • Accountable for SRI’s EDI program and ensuring EDI requirements for major funding programs.
  • Accountable for Research Security requirements for funding programs.
  • Responsible for development of relevant policies and guidelines (e.g. authorship policy).

 

Qualifications/Skills

  • Graduate degree, preferably from a scientific discipline
  • Minimum of five years of progressive experience in research administration
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills and strategic planning skills
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and facilitating grant proposals especially matching funds/government research infrastructure programs
  • Project management experience from pre- to post-award, including status reporting, identifying issues and risks, ensuring available funding and negotiating research contracts
  • Strong financial, management and administration skills with the ability to draft complex research budget proposals, forecast expenses and monitor relevant research and contract accounts
  • Strong leadership skills including the ability to multi-task and manage/balance the needs of multiple stakeholders
  • Experience in advising senior-level staff on strategies, policies, programs and best practices pertinent to research administration
  •  Excellent planning and organizational skills and demonstrated problem-solving skills with the ability to assess and mitigate risks
