Core Facility Manager in the Stem Cell and Organoid Core at the Sunnybrook Research Institute

A position is available for a Core Facility Manager of a Stem Cell and Organoid Core Facility in an academic research hospital that offers a collaborative environment with diverse expertise. We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to be responsible for the organization and smooth running of the facility, overseeing pluripotent stem cell production and maintenance and organoid production, ensuring that required safety standards are met, and supporting and assisting academic researchers with ongoing research projects.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • PhD level degree in biological sciences
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant, post-PhD degree work experience
  • Expert level knowledge and practical experience with pluripotent stem cells and organoid production
  • Experience as a Manager with strong supervisory skills and a demonstrated ability to build trust
  • Experience in establishing partnerships and productive working relationships both within an organization and with collaborators and sponsors
  • Ability to work autonomously in a team environment is critical.
  • Excellent ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks
  • Excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and time management skills
  • Superb interpersonal skills, both written and verbal

 

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining various human embryonic and induced-pluripotent stem-cell lines with appropriate quality checks
  • High throughput, multi-tissue organoid production.
  • Organoid model optimisation services.
  • Collaborative development of new and innovative organoid models.
  • Training of students or other lab personnel in stem-cell maintenance/organoid creation
  • Consulting to support grant budgeting and project development for academic researchers
  • Summarizing and communicating facility status and results to supporting principal investigators
  • Presenting to potential donors, outlining facility workings and research advances made in the stem-cell/organoid facility
  • Maintaining the smooth running of the facility, including:
    • Writing and/or renewing Research-Ethics-Board applications for human embryonic stem cells maintained in the facility
    • Documenting and maintaining an organized laboratory notebook system to document all laboratory activities
    • Monitoring of facility supplies and maintenance of equipment
