Salary Range: $38.641 - $49.586/hr

Summary of Duties:

Reporting to the Manager, Public Affairs, this position is responsible for developing and implementing strategic external communication initiatives and campaigns that support corporate and program priorities. This position is also responsible for leading communications for key hospital programs, including the Odette Cancer Program, the Veterans Program, and the newly launched Integrated Surgical Program.

 

The successful candidate will develop plans and materials to inform and motivate key stakeholders including community partners, government stakeholders, industry associations, Sunnybrook patients, their families, the general public, and Sunnybrook staff, physicians, leaders and learners.

 

Qualifications/Skills:

 

  • A track record of success working in a comprehensive communications program in a highly complex, multi-layered, intellectually charged work environment;
  • clients across departments within the hospital and/or external partners;
  • University degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field;
  • Five to seven years of experience in a communications role with multiple portfolios; previous health-care experience is a plus;
  • Demonstrated ability to create and implement strategic communications plans;
  • Ability to develop creative and engaging content that captures the attention of external audiences;
  • Strong experience executing proactive and reactive media relations campaigns, with a history of securing media coverage and providing media training to spokespeople
  • Excellent writing, editing and public speaking skills;
  • Proven ability to engage with stakeholders, including patients and families, with tact, sensitivity, and respect for diverse backgrounds and experiences;
  • Experience with special events planning and coordination;
  • Experience with issues and crisis communications, and ability to handle sensitive communication situations with tact and professionalism;
  • Ability to maintain a positive, flexible and responsive attitude, professional image and team-oriented style;
  • Demonstrated ability to work both as a team member and on your own with minimal supervision;
  • Self-starter and strategic thinker who is able to generate significant results using limited resources;
  • Strong time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment;
  • Flexibility to work weekends and evenings when necessary, including on-call responsibilities (approx. one week every 12 weeks)
