About the Program
The WSIB Mental Health Specialized Care Program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre provides support to injured workers across Ontario who are insured by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). The program is dedicated to enhancing both functional and psychological outcomes for individuals who have experienced workplace-related mental health injuries. Services include comprehensive interdisciplinary assessments, ongoing follow-up, and evidence-based treatment tailored to each patient’s needs.
About the Role
The Team Leader plays a critical role in supporting the Management Team by ensuring the highest standards of client care through strong clinical leadership and a commitment to continuous quality improvement. This position is responsible for overseeing the clinical operations of the WSIB Mental Health Specialized Care Program and serves as a key resource for both staff and leadership. In this role, the Team Leader leads client assessments and treatment planning, working collaboratively with team members—including Professional Practice Leaders (PPLs)—to deliver informed clinical recommendations and therapeutic interventions. They also contribute to staff development through education and mentorship. Beyond clinical leadership, the Team Leader helps shape the strategic direction of the program by refining clinical processes and implementing policies grounded in the latest research and best practices. They work closely with the Operations Manager and Director to monitor program performance and ensure key performance indicators are met, driving continuous improvement and excellence in care delivery.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, psychotherapists and occupational therapists.
- Serve as a key resource for both staff and leadership.
- Contribute to staff development through education and mentorship.
- Support team members in their professional growth and clinical practice.
- Drive continuous quality improvement within the program.
- Help shape the strategic direction of the program by refining clinical processes.
- Implement policies and procedures based on the latest research and best practices.
- Work closely with the Operations Manager and Director to monitor program performance.
- Ensure key performance indicators (KPIs) are met.
- Promote excellence in care delivery through ongoing evaluation and improvement.
Qualifications/Skills
- A Master’s Degree in Clinical/Health Sciences or Management, preferred
- Current certificate of competence from Professional College, preferred
- Demonstrable understanding of third-party payer programs and revenue-generating programs in a hospital setting, required
- Project Management experience an asset, with focus on operational reviews/efficiency
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, team building and decision–making skills
- Ability to work successfully with internal and external stakeholders
- Experience with change management and innovation
- Coaching and empowering style of leadership
- Demonstrated interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Knowledge of legislation affecting human resources (i.e. human rights, employment standards, Occupational Health & Safety).
- Familiarity with collective agreements, scheduling, and budgets
- Computer literate
