Salary Range: $32.524-$41.736/hr

Summary of Duties:

Reporting to the Operations Manager at the Sunnybrook Centre for Independent Living (SCIL), the Pedorthic Technician will support the daily operations of the Pedorthic Department, which includes the Foot Orthotics and Custom Footwear Service. This role involves a combination of clinical assistance, technical support, customer service, and administrative duties. The Pedorthic Technician will work closely with Certified Pedorthists and other allied health professionals to ensure high-quality patient care and operational efficiency, while also engaging in ongoing professional development within the field of Pedorthics.

The Pedorthic Technician’s key responsibilities include:

  • Fabrication of custom made orthopaedic footwear
  • Fabrication of custom made foot orthoses and other lower extremity devices; may include use of computer-aided design and additive manufacturing or conventional manufacturing methods
  • Modification of orthopaedic footwear and repair
  • Requisition of materials and supplies for lab use
  • Order entry and data processing
  • General maintenance and upkeep of lab equipment

 

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Certified Pedorthic Technician or equivalent experience.
  • Possess solid knowledge of foot and lower leg biomechanics and related pathologies
  • Minimum Five years related experience and extensive experience in custom made orthopaedic shoe manufacturing and custom foot orthotic fabrication.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in footwear modifications and finishing.
  • Must demonstrate manual dexterity with common tools (i.e. skiving knives, bandsaw, vice, grinder, pliers, etc.).
  • Solve technical problems and liaise with supervisor, patients, technical, clinical and support staff.
  • Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must provide administrative support (i.e. Inventory, ordering, phones, etc.).
  • Must be able to work efficiently both in a team and individual environment.
  • Must participate in professional development and continuing education.
  • Knowledge of computer-aided design and additive manufacturing is an asset.
