Summary of Duties:
Maintains, stores, and takes inventory of all orthopaedic equipment; transports patients and equipment throughout the Hospital.

Transfers patients to and from the Special Care Unit, PACU, OPD and Diagnostic Imaging to the appropriate nursing units as required.

Collects all unused orthopaedic equipment from the Hospital floors. On a daily basis cleans and maintains all orthopaedic equipment and ensures proper storage.

Assembles all required equipment for patients in the PACU (i.e. overhead frames, abduction wedges, etc.). Assembles all necessary orthopaedic equipment for patients on the nursing units.

Cleans and maintains beds (including specialized beds), wheel chairs, and oxygen tanks on the emergency cart, CPM machines, "hot pack" machines monthly, and stretchers for patients.

Ensures PCA pumps are returned to PACU.

In PACU, assists with lifting patients for placement of X-Ray plates.

Ensures O2 portable tanks are filled after use.

Ensures all beds are checked before each move.

Repairs beds, wheelchairs CPM’s etc.
Qualifications/Skills:

Grade l2 education.
-
Certified as an Orthopaedic Technician and/or related diploma would be an asset

Previous knowledge of orthopaedic equipment and its function; technical and maintenance ability is required.

Previous experience in maintenance of patient care equipment a definite asset. Previous Hospital patient-portering and equipment maintenance experience is required.

Tact and discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential patient information.

Good interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and use judgment.

Ability to read, write and speak English competently.

Ability to communicate effectively with patients/families and Hospital staff members.

Ability to carry out own duties in an organized fashion.

Must possess an Infection Control Core Competency Certificate.

Must have attended WHMIS training.
-
Must be prepared and able to use all personal protective equipment.
- Physical demands include standing, pushing bed/wheel chair/cart and lifting patients etc.
