Sunnybrook Research Institute is the research enterprise of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, a teaching hospital fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. Research spans three Toronto-based campuses, eight programs and three scientific platforms. Dr. Kozak’s research group is involved in studying emerging viruses to better understand viral pathogenesis, develop novel diagnostics and evaluate countermeasures. Additionally, work focuses on the genomic epidemiology of respiratory pathogens to better understand transmission and improve surveillance.
Summary of Duties:
The individual will assist with multiple ongoing research projects in the lab related to virology. These will include both wet-lab based projects (eg. cell culture, animal studies) in both a BSL2 and BSL3 environment as well as patient chart reviews. Additionally the individual will assist with reagent ordering and other lab operational duties as needed.
- Successful completion of a Bachelor of Science in a relevant field is required. A MSc is considered an asset
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in clinical laboratory
- Experience with molecular assays, specimen handling and processing clinical samples is required. Experience working with animals is considered an asset.
- Strong interpersonal, time management and organizational skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated proficiency in scientific writing
- Demonstrated knowledge of research regulations and guidelines (eg. clinical lab protocols, biosafety, etc)
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science required (MSc an asset)
