The Focused Ultrasound Laboratory at Sunnybrook Research Institute is seeking motivated and responsible high school students to participate in the Focused Ultrasound High School Summer Research Program. This paid summer position provides students with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in world-leading biomedical research laboratory. For summer 2026, students may also be placed on research projects in other laboratories within the Physical Sciences and Biological Sciences platforms at Sunnybrook.
Focused ultrasound is a cutting-edge, non-invasive medical technology that allows treatment of tumours and other diseases without surgery. Our laboratory is internationally recognized for developing innovative technologies for image-guided therapy and targeted drug delivery, with direct clinical and industry impact.
Students in this program will work alongside researchers, engineers, and clinicians from diverse backgrounds including physics, engineering, biology, and medicine. The research environment is fast-paced, collaborative, and strongly connected to real-world medical applications and technology commercialization.
This position is ideal for high school students interested in science, engineering, biomedical technology, or healthcare who are eager to learn and contribute in a professional research setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with hands-on research activities under staff supervision
- Support laboratory and technical tasks, including basic experiments, assembly, or testing
- Collect, organize, and document data accurately following established protocols
- Participate in seminars, workshops, and training sessions as part of the summer research program
- Collaborate with researchers, technicians, and other students in a professional research environment
Comprehensive training will be provided. No prior laboratory experience is required.
Eligibility and Qualifications
- Must be 16 years of age by July 1, 2026 (this means grade 11 and 12 students, and any grade 10s who turn 16 by July 1st)
- Currently enrolled as a high school student
- Must be able to commit to full-time hours in person Monday to Friday, July–August, as this is a paid position
- Strong academic standing in math and sciences
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
- Must be able to demonstrate a strong interest and motivation in the sciences

Salary range: $16.60-$17.60/hr
