Position Summary

The division of spine surgery is seeking a Medical Administrative Assistant to provide administrative and secretarial support focusing on surgical scheduling and patient coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduling of outpatient and/or inpatient procedures.
  • Scheduling pre-assessment appointments.
  • Preparation of patient charts and filing as required.
  • Contacting patients with appointment times and arrival instructions.
  • Answering telephones and directing patient inquiries to the appropriate individual.
  • Managing faxing and general office correspondence.
  • Performing other secretarial or receptionist duties as assigned by the surgeon or Office Manager.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a recognized Medical Office Administration program/diploma or equivalent at the community college level.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related practical experience.
  • Previous experience managing O.R. bookings and scheduling.
  • Proficiency in written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to organize tasks, prioritize effectively, and multi-task.
  • Proficiency in exercising tact and discretion when dealing with confidential issues.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and act independently using sound judgment.
  • Ability to recognize when direction is needed when there are competing demands.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook and Word (Excel preferred).
