Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Michael Garron Hospital, North York General Hospital and Scarborough Health Network are partnering to improve critical care nursing capacity within our region, by creating a pool of Intensive Care/Critical Care Nurses called the Multi-hospital Critical Care Resource Team (MCCRT).

These unique positions are for Registered Nurses looking to grow in their career and expand their knowledge in a highly supportive environment.

 

As a member of this partnership, each successful candidate will be hired into a hospital site, and have the ability to work at all four hospitals based on business needs and patient volumes.

Sunnybrook is home to the first and largest trauma centre in Canada, and the country’s largest adult burn Centre. Ontario’s most seriously injured patients are rushed to Sunnybrook by air and land ambulance from across the province. We provide highly specialized care to one in three trauma patients in Ontario, totaling about 2,000 critically injured patients each year — the highest number in Canada.

Summary of Duties

Responsible for the primary care of Level III medical-surgical critical care patients. The RN will work closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team to provide care for patients and their families in a patient focused environment. The RN’s practice will be consistent with the College of Nurses standards, Sunnybrook Nursing Practice standards and the mission and values of Sunnybrook.

 

Qualifications/Skills

    • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario;
    • Current BCLS certificate;
    • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred;
    • Three years of current Level 2 or 3 critical care experience required;
    • Completion of a recognized Critical Care Course;
    • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education within the past two (2) years with emphasis placed on courses/conferences related to critical care nursing;
    • Demonstrated commitment to organizational initiatives, such as completion of the Patient-Focused Care Course and participation in nursing council, unit committees, and quality improvement projects;
    • Demonstrated effective ability in: interpersonal relationships; oral and written communication skills; organization skills; priority setting skills; problem solving; decision making; facilitating team work; conflict resolution;
    • Demonstrated ability to integrate and apply critical thinking skills to patient care;
    • Demonstrated ability to handle stressful environments in a positive manner;
    • Demonstrated ability to function independently and as a part of the multidisciplinary team.

 

 

Nurses joining the MCCRT with Sunnybrook as their home unit will be oriented to D4 (Medical Surgical ICU). D4ICU is a 22-bed intensive care unit (ICU) for patients who require medical, surgical or stroke care. Learn more about the unit here.
