Summary of Duties

We are seeking an experienced RPN to work in the fast-paced environment of the Colposcopy Unit & the Cystoscopy Unit, assisting with procedures and providing Person Centred Care. The RPN will participate as a member of the ambulatory care team in a manner that reflects the Hospital’s philosophy and mission of service, and which promotes and maintains good public relations with patients, visitors and hospital staff. The RPN works as a GU tech in the Cystoscopy clinic with after-hour on call duties.

The RPN should have an ability to adapt to a fast-changing and stressful environment, and may be requested to float to other procedure-related areas in the OR & Related Services.

 

Qualifications/Skills

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Completion of Laser certificate as an asset
  • Recent Gynecology/Urology experience as an asset
  • Knowledge of sterilization process/sterile techniques, and experience preparing patients for sterile procedures
  • Expertise in the performance of gynecological operative techniques
  • Minimum one year consistent experience with Foley catheterization.
  • Knowledge of vasectomies, bladder scans and continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
  • Experience and/or demonstrated familiarity and knowledge with urological procedures such as Retrograde Pyelogram and Urethral Dilation
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem solving and ability to prioritize in a stressful environment required
  • Excellent time management and organization skills
  • Excellent teamwork within a multidisciplinary team, including students
  • Demonstrated commitment to Person Centred Care approach and principles
  • Demonstrated strong skills in patient teaching
  • Demonstrated interest in personal professional development
  • Demonstrated leadership/and strong conflict management skills required
  • Competent computer skills required
