Summary of Duties:
- Will provide strong subject matter expertise for the medically delegated grossing procedures and technical services in Surgical Pathology and Autopsy
- Works with medical staff, management, peers, and internal and external users to ensure quality patient care services are maintained
- Provides input and participates in the implementation of initiatives to improve services employing standardized processes, technological enhancements, workflow efficiencies using LEAN principles, and quality system management
- Proficiency to be demonstrated in grossing the most complex specimens, frozen sectioning, digital image capture and analysis of radiological findings
- Participation at internal and external meetings and committee work is required
Qualification & Skills:
- Pathologists’ Assistant certification from either Canadian Certification Council of Pathologists’ Assistants (CCCPA-CCCAP) or American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required (within 1 year for new graduates)
- Minimum of 3 years as a Pathologists’ Assistant in an academic hospital clinical lab preferred
- Demonstrated ability to recognize and describe diagnostic anatomical features in tissue from complex cases
- Must be able to provide quality frozen sections under strict timelines
- Required to work in a dynamic, busy environment
- Strong theoretical and working knowledge of good lab practice required
- Effective communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Strong organizational skills and effective time management
- Effective interactions with individuals at all levels and in all disciplines
- Advanced computer skills using Microsoft Office
- Able to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Previous experience with CoPath an asset
