Position Title: Medventions Intern (Multiple Openings) – Emergency Medicine

Are you passionate about solving real-world challenges in health care through innovation? The Medventions Internship Program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre offers aspiring innovators a unique opportunity to work on high-impact medical technology projects embedded within clinical environments.
About Medventions
Medventions is a high-intensity, hospital-based innovation program hosted by Sunnybrook Research Institute. Over four months, interdisciplinary teams of students and early-career professionals collaborate with leading clinicians, researchers, and industry mentors to identify unmet clinical needs, generate novel ideas, and develop early-stage prototypes that aim to transform patient care.
Emergency Medicine Track: Work inside one of Canada’s busiest Emergency Departments to address acute care challenges. This track offers a unique opportunity to innovate on the frontlines of acute care, where seconds matter and impact is immediate. Focus areas include (but are not limited to):
- Redesigning emergency workflows and communication
- Improving coordination during trauma and resuscitation support
- Leveraging AI and decision support tools at the point of care
- Enhancing triage, monitoring, and patient handoffs
Participants will either:
- Identify new clinical problems through direct observation and clinical immersion, or
- Work on pre-validated, high-priority clinical needs already identified by Sunnybrook physicians.
Program Structure
The internship spans three immersive phases:
- Clinical Immersion & Needs Identification
- Ideation & Concept Development
- Prototyping & Early Validation
Interns will work in interdisciplinary teams with support from clinical, engineering, and business mentors.

Preferred backgrounds: Medicine, Biomedical or Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Design, or related fields.
