One of Canada's Top 10 Research Hospitals, Sunnybrook Research Institute is developing innovations in care for the more than 1.3 million patients the hospital cares for annually.
Sunnybrook Research Institute is the research enterprise of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, a teaching hospital fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. Research spans three Toronto-based campuses, eight programs and three scientific platforms. Our main aims are to understand and prevent disease, and to develop treatments that enhance and extend life. Our vision is to invent the future of health care. Each year, we conduct about $100 million in research across 500,000 square feet, including in the world’s first Centre for Research in Image-Guided Therapeutics.
Build the Future of Health Care from the Frontlines
Are you passionate about solving real-world challenges in health care through innovation? The Medventions Internship Program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre offers aspiring innovators a unique opportunity to work on high-impact medical technology projects embedded within clinical environments.
About Medventions
Medventions is a high-intensity, hospital-based innovation program hosted by Sunnybrook Research Institute. Over four months, interdisciplinary teams of students and early-career professionals collaborate with leading clinicians, researchers, and industry mentors to identify unmet clinical needs, generate novel ideas, and develop early-stage prototypes that aim to transform patient care.
Summary of Duties:
[Interventional Cardiology Track
Work alongside cardiologists in Sunnybrook’s state-of-the-art Schulich Heart Program, gaining exposure to the latest in image-guided cardiovascular care.
Focus areas include (but are not limited to):
- Innovations in image-guided interventional cardiology procedures (e.g., transcatheter valve therapies, complex coronary interventions)
- EP opportunities, including technologies supporting cardiac device implantation and ablation
- Technologies enabling structural and coronary interventions, such as tools for transcatheter, robotic, or hybrid procedures
- Peri-procedural planning and support tools (e.g., imaging fusion, simulation, and intra-procedural guidance)
- AI, wearables, robotics, and automation to enhance workflow efficiency and clinical decision-making
Participants will either:
- Identify new clinical problems through direct observation and clinical immersions, or
- Work on pre-validated, high-priority clinical needs already identified by Sunnybrook physicians.
Program Structure
The internship spans three immersive phases:
- Clinical Immersion & Needs Identification
