The Ambulatory mental health RN on the neuromodulation team will assist with assessment, coordination and application of various treatment in the neuromodulation clinics. This includes application of energy for rTMS, assisting with application and recovery of ECT, administers and assess effectiveness of treatments and medication. Provides quality follow up education and counselling to clients between and during treatments, collects and submits required monthly statistical data ensuring accuracy. Functions within an interdisciplinary team assisting with conducting mental status evaluations, collects collateral information, provides follow up counselling, and facilitates referrals and sourcing of outpatient and community resources. Practices in accordance with Sunny brook’s Patient Focused Care philosophy.

 

Qualifications/Skills

 

  • Current College of Nurses of Ontario registration required
  • Current B.C.L.S. Certificate required
  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention certification required
  • Current 1-2 yrs experience with ambulatory psychiatric nursing, explicitly in ECT, rTMS, Es-Ketamine administration and medication clinic, required.
  • Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing Certification preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to establish therapeutic alliance with patients with various mental health diagnoses
  • Ability to conduct a nursing mental status evaluation
  • Experience assessing patients with severe mental illness, and safety assessments
  • Comprehensive knowledge of psychotropic drugs
  • Comprehensive knowledge of community resources for those affected by mental illness
  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to apply principles of CBT, DBT and solution focused therapies in day to day practice.
  • Ability to problem solve, prioritize, be flexible and manage time effectively required
  • Ability to work effectively both autonomously and within an inter-professional team environment
  • Trained and Certified with application of energy via the Brainsway and Magstim machines, and is trained in the administration of Es-Ketamine.
  • Ability and wiliness to be flexible in a fast pace clinical environment
