Summary of Duties:

We are seeking a dynamic individual to lead the advancement of Physiotherapy within an interprofessional context. This individual will be a key member of the organization’s innovative professional practice structure across all programs and all four Sunnybrook campuses. Reporting to the Directors of Interprofessional Practice and Interprofessional and Academic Education, the Professional Leader promotes Sunnybrook’s mission, vision and values across the organization to provide the highest quality person-centred care. The ideal candidate is passionate about the importance of: innovative professional practice, interprofessional teamwork, best practices, quality improvement, continuing education/professional development, the student experience, academic scholarship and demonstrates a commitment to the communities we serve.

  • Develop, implement and evaluate profession specific standards, that advance the vision and strategic goals of SHSC
  • Act as a role model and mentor to promote continued development of all staff
  • Collaborate with program and operational leaders  concerning models of care,  recruitment, credentialing, performance management and workload
  • Develop and implement profession specific quality improvement activities
  • Represent the profession and professional practice within the hospital and the community
  • Promote and support the professional and academic development of staff
  • Facilitate, support, and participate in research, scholarship and evidence-based health care including quality improvement activities
  • Participate in and promote Interprofessional Education Activities
  • Coordinate  learner opportunities in dialogue with the universities and professional associations, offer guidance with respect to any placement issues, support faculty development/preceptor education, and facilitate means to optimize the student and teacher experience, including acting as the site coordinator for clinical placements and other clinical education opportunities
  • Support the Physiotherapy team in building capacity for clinical and peer education
  • Drive the academic mandate by identifying growth opportunities, potential external partnerships, and innovative programming
  • Provide leadership and advancement for the profession via the professional council for Physiotherapy

 

Qualifications/Skills

  • Graduate (Masters) degree in a research/education/administrative or related area
  • Additional education in Leadership and/or Adult Education would be an asset
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario  
  • Minimum five (5) years broad experience in physiotherapy and extensive knowledge of theory, principles, and practical application, preferred
  • Academic appointment at University of Toronto, preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work with a variety of stakeholders and team members
  • Self-directed, strong critical thinking, change management, problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and to take initiative and leadership when appropriate.
  • Proven effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant regulation, legislation and standards/guidelines documents as they pertain to the healthcare sector
  • Experience in supervision of physiotherapy students
  • Research/academic scholarship/quality improvement experience would be an asset
  • Current membership in relevant associations is recommended
