Summary of Duties:
Under the supervision of the PI and clinical research staff at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, the summer student will participate in ongoing clinical research projects related to Cancer. Duties will include:
- Collecting, organizing and analyzing data for clinical research studies in Cancer
- Administering patient questionnaires related to cancer and quality of life
- Conducting and summarizing literature search related to the research topic
- Preparing and maintaining documentation related to the research including forms and databases within study protocols
- Participating in research team meetings
- Collaborating with the research team to prepare a poster or oral presentation
- Presenting findings to research staff and at research conference
- Adhering to all hospital policies, protocols, privacy regulations, as well as research ethics guidelines (i.e. PHIPA, REB requirements)
Qualifications:
- Enrolled in Grade 11/12 with an interest in health sciences and clinical research
- Strong academic standing particularly in science and mathematics
- Must have completed a high school level statistics or data management course
- Excellent collaborative skills with the ability to work and interact with other members of the research team
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to demonstrate empathy and respect towards patients and their families
- Strong oral and communication skills with ability to create and confidently present to colleagues and hospital research staff
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Able to abide by hospital privacy policies, ensuring patient and research information gathered is strictly confidential
- Experience in healthcare, research, or science related setting as a volunteer, or student intern is an asset
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the summer studentship placement
